TABLINUM

Tried to experiment with, what defines a space? so incorporated a series of columns and a single brick high wall to create the threshold between tablinum and University life. The wood is designed to act as partition. be it wall or roof depending on the desired use of the structure, to block view from passers by and allow light to penetrate from above. Or block the light from above.

Work space provided on the floor and the transition from wall to roof

Initial thoughts, the second seem more viable due to its location and arrangements, which further developments stemmed.

The idea of columns and possible arrangement and function within the space

The combination of columns and low height walls to define a space

Initial Ideas:
1.a room suspended between levels, entry and exit via fire poles.

2. Exploration of the feeling of enclosure required for each activity, could define form.
3. Activity happens around two boxes, a tent provides cover from the weather and privacy.
4. Exploring the relationship of the body to the circle. Mainly arm movement is required for the relevant activities, this pivots around the chest.

Tablinum.

Final Design. Concept and Process.

Why I chose the Site:

- raised so that it is private and securewithout being in a corner...this maintainsa sense of social inclusion without it beinga public space.

- backdrop of library promotes study.

- exposed to natural light but from onlyone direction so it is easy to be controlled.

Tablinum

The first concept is coming from the continues of existing volumes on level 2. I designed Tablinum completely enclosed because of crowded location on level 2.

Here is process of my thinking to combine two different types of volumes. I tried to design Minima in combination of dynamic and static volumes to make a balance in space.

TOM ARCHER (MINIMA Week 03/04) "Submerged/Floating attached to the pier"

Im trying to achieve a different experience by being underwater. My 4th idea was purely achieved by combining what i liked about my other 3 ideas and also thinking of features they didnt have. Havent thought about how they can be built, but they are just ideas.
